I enjoy singing for singing's sake and will try anything once. With a passion for soul, blues, gospel, pop, rock, classical, and everything in between I listen to music and sing pretty much all the time. The first song I ever sang was Shakira's Underneath Your Clothes in the back seat of the car. And while singing Thank You by Dido I realised that singing was my expression. As a result I was encouraged to sing Alanis Morissette's Ironic by my uncle.
I went on to perform acoustically with Richard Dunn, an amazing singer songwriter who plays guitar like a god, before beginning my life as the front woman for a dirty blues band in Edinburgh, Doc Rodent. You can sample my singing by visiting my MySpace where I have a few rough songs I quite like or my YouTube channel where you will find videos of many of my early recordings. But remember- singing and music have to be fun if nothing else, so don't expect perfection.
Not being a trained singer I am currently working with my amazing mentor Hazel Quinn to improve my natural range and work on breathing techniques. So what you hear is what comes naturally so far, but I am hoping to keep improving my performance which is also why I am studying Modern Musicianship in Edinburgh.
I am currently working on my debut album- a Scottish one, which will be ready later in 2010. At present I am writing for my new band Deliver Me and we are looking to create a funky, rock sort of reggae sound to have fun with. Gigs are planned for the not too distant future.
I am also involved in PR work for our small AV company, The Gecko Tree which combines music event management and music video creation with the PA hire and even recording facilities (Chapel Records) in the Scottish Borders and Edinburgh areas. The aim is to provide young musicians, sound engineers and video makers a quality experience in getting work within the industry and to provide musicians with a way of getting access to these young professionals to help them achieve their aims.
In the meantime if you would like to contact me, either to book Richard and I or Doc Rodent for a gig, find out where we are performing next, or to find out more about The Gecko Tree, please see my contact page for more information.
